The Great Pretender – Top 3 Vintage Style Ring Designers
While owning a genuine vintage ring is the dream of many, there are also a lot of people who are just as happy to own a vintage style ring. In fact, some people actually prefer to collect the vintage style costume jewelry. For them it is equally impressive and intriguing but not nearly as hard on the pocketbook. And for some that translates into being able to buy more!
There were many jewelry designers of the day who produced only costume jewelry, or what we refer to today as the “vintage style” of jewelry. Here are 3 of the most well known and a little bit about them.
Miriam Haskell 1924-Present
This was a very high quality line of costume jewelry that rivaled the diamonds and gold of genuine articles. Her line of costume jewelry was created to accessories her upper class clothing designs and therefore attracted a very elite clientele. The identifying mark on her early pieces is her name written in a horse shoe shape. This mark was used up until 1960.
Eisenberg 1914-1977
Jonas Eisenberg was also a fashion designer who began making his own line of jewelry to compliment his clothing line. His company created costume jewelry until about 1950 and the moved into genuine, high quality designs. They did not start signing their pieces until after 1935. They were a company noted for using only the highest quality of stones, metals and platings.
Marcel Boucher 1937-1972
Boucher worked with the well known jewelry designer, Cartier before coming to New York and starting his own company in 1937. He is best known for his very unique metal work and rhinestone designs. His wife was a jewelry designer as well who worked at one time for Tiffany Jewelers. Boucher began numbering his designs after 1940.
Many a vintage style ring has been created over the years by these top three designers. How fortunate for you, if yours should happen to be one of them!
