How to Sell Your Vintage Rings
If you are not interested in selling your vintage rings on Ebay or on your own in any way, another option is to sell to a dealer. While this method of selling is fine, keep in mind that you may not get as high a price from a dealer because they have to make a profit too. When you sell your pieces yourself, the profit is all yours. It does take a bit more time and patience, however to sell the pieces yourself. If you are considering selling to a dealer, here are a few helpful hints.
Educate yourself on current trends and interests in the vintage market and be sure that the vintage rings you want to sell are ones that people are looking for. If the market is saturated with the particular rings you have, it may be difficult to interest a dealer in buying them. Try to move pieces when they are popular.
Also, if you are trying to sell to an online dealer, make sure your email description is very detailed. Describe the type of piece, its size, color, condition etc. in as much detail as possible. Provide very clear photographs of both the front and the back.
Another thing to be informed about is the piece itself and what price you are asking for it. Do as much research on your vintage rings as you can to determine their value, so you can best decide on your asking price. The dealer may still negotiate an offer but it will be easier to reach an agreement if you know what you want.
Remember that the dealer represents a middle man in this kind of transaction. You can’t expect to get more than 1/3 to ½ of full retail value because the dealer has to make a profit too. You will have a better chance of selling your vintage rings if your expectations are reasonable.
Finally, be certain to work with a dealer that you trust. Selling a vintage ring to an online dealer is going to require trust. You will probably have to send the piece to them for purchase on approval. A dealer can often find faults with a piece that you may not see or recognize, and this will be a large part of their decision to buy. Make sure you have a purchase agreement in place that you are comfortable with.
For example, you may ask that the dealer send you an email as soon as they receive the ring. Ask that they follow up within a certain time frame with either reasons for returning the ring, or confirmation of payment sent.
Following these simple guidelines should help you to have a positive experience selling your vintage rings.
