Vintage Ring Designers Part 2 – Eisenburg
Most collectors agree that Eisenberg jewelry was the finest costume jewelry ever made. Vintage rings and other pieces from this long lasting designer are highly sought after.
Eisenberg, like many other designers of the day, began in business selling woman’s clothing. Jewelry was added to the business in the late 1930s as a means to boost sales. Very soon, jewelry became the main focus of the business and the company switched to making jewelry only by 1958.
Eisenberg vintage rings were made strictly of rhinestones and plated metals. Swarovski Austrian crystals in a wide range of colors were used alongside rhodium plated metals in shades of rose, gold, silver and copper.
Eisenberg vintage rings were often designed in color combinations such as turquoise and pink, purple and pink, amethyst and turquoise and red and crystal. The color of the metals was coordinated to match the color of the stones. Pearls were added to the design line eventually to add an even more sophisticated touch.
Ring stones were dazzling and glamorous, often designed with large round, emerald and marquis cuts.
Eisenberg vintage rings and all Eisenberg jewelry is known for its outstanding quality of craftsmanship and its unique, unusual designs. An add from a 1940s magazine is quoted as saying Eisenberg jewelry as the” –”Jewelry of the future, as clear cut and dazzling as an iceberg in sunlight.”
Telling an authentic Eisenberg is not usually difficult as most of their pieces were marked. There were several changes in marks, however, and the dates of different markings overlap. Look for the words Eisenberg Original, Eisenberg Silver, Eisenberg Sterling, and in some cases just a capital E.
There are fakes on the market, though, so as always, it is recommended that you have any Eisenberg vintage ring that you are interested in authenticated by a reputable dealer.
