The Case of the Missing Vintage engagement ring

Here is a cute story about the curious case of a “missing” vintage engagement ring. Great Grandma has recently passed away. The family is greatly saddened by her passing for she was what everyone in the family called a “character” She was quite outspoken, did as she pleased and was a real prankster. You were never quite sure with Great Grandma, is she was pulling your leg or not.

Anyway, in going through Great Grandma’s things, a box of old photographs was found. There were pictures of Great Grandma and the family celebrating all kinds of wonderful moments. In digging deeper through the pile, they came upon a portrait of Great Grandma that was labeled on the back as Grandma – Engagement Photo. Front and center in that photo on Grandmas left ring finger was what we would call today a gorgeous vintage engagement ring.

Everyone was astonished by the rings size and beauty. The younger women in the group were especially impressed. Many turned to Mothers and Grandmothers asking what had ever happened to the ring. They assumed it had been either handed down to some fortunate member of the family already, or perhaps it was tucked away in an old jewelry box waiting to be discovered.

But the older women just shook their heads, smiled knowingly, and explained. There really was no beautiful vintage engagement ring to be handed down. In one of great grandma’s moments of mischief, she had asked the artist to paint the ring into the portrait. Her explanation was simple. If she should pass away before grandpa, and he were to marry again, she wanted his next wife to make herself crazy looking for the mysterious ring!

So now you know. If you happen to see a glamorous vintage engagement ring in amongst Grandmas old photos, you better ask Grandpa if it ever really existed!
